DHA is seeking a Tunnel Project Engineer for a high-visibility CSO tunneling program in Washington, D.C. Must have pipeline rehabilitation and bypass experience. Responsibilities include structural reviews, client communication, and planning to meet project requirements and schedules.

Salary

$50 -$80

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering design and analysis for tunneling and below-ground infrastructure projects
  • Review and approve design submittals related to tunnel and shaft construction
  • Coordinate with clients and consultants to clarify project requirements and ensure successful project delivery
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports and project documentation
  • Provide oversight and quality control during construction phases
  • Apply engineering principles to solve complex design challenges related to tunnels and shafts
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with stakeholders
  • Utilize design software to model, analyze, and optimize engineering solutions
  • Contribute to project scheduling and planning to meet deadlines
  • Support project management and document control tasks, ensuring compliance with standards
  • Stay updated on industry trends and standards, especially related to tunneling and underground infrastructure

Qualifications

  • 3-8 years of relevant engineering design experience
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in DC required or ability to obtain within one year
  • Working knowledge and understanding of tunnels and shafts
  • Experience with below-ground structures and infrastructure projects
  • Preferred experience with shafts, slurry walls, secant piles, or comparable excavation support methods
  • Proficiency with structural engineering design software
  • Familiarity with DC Water design standards preferred
  • Proficiency in project management/document control software and Microsoft Office programs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly motivated, responsible, and timely with a strong work eth

Working Conditions

Work is primarily office-based (about 80%) and sedentary, with occasional standing and walking. Field work (20%) involves outdoor conditions such as heat, cold, humidity, or dryness, and may require working in confined spaces. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs.) may be necessary. On-site work is required five days a week in client's office in Washington, DC.
